OverView

This project began as an exploration of one of the most recognizable interface systems in digital history, Windows 95. The goal was to recreate its visual language inside Figma as a reusable UI kit containing windows, buttons, menus, inputs, icons, and layout structures.

Rather than modernizing the aesthetic, the project intentionally preserves the original system’s visual quirks, density, and tactile feel. Elements such as bevels, borders, shadows, spacing, and typography were carefully reconstructed to match the original interface language as closely as possible.

The final kit was published publicly on Figma Community, where it reached 12k+ views, 6k+ usages and 200+ saves.

A major part of the process focused on rebuilding the system logic behind the interface rather than creating static mockups. Components were designed to be modular, reusable, and scalable, allowing complete Windows 95-style interfaces to be assembled directly inside Figma.

Many seemingly simple elements required highly specific spacing rules, layered borders, repeated patterns, and strict visual consistency to feel authentic to the original operating system.

Beyond nostalgia itself, the project became a small study in interface reconstruction and systems-oriented design, exploring how older operating systems communicated hierarchy, usability, and affordance with extremely limited visual resources.
